Child Sponsorships
At present (2011), Every Child Ministries has five sponsorship projects in Uganda, providing educational and other forms of assistance to 186 vulnerable children. Pray with us that we will be able to double this number in 2012.
Our sponsorship includes: payment of all school fees for approved schools, uniforms and educational supplies, and a weekly club meeting at which a character-building Bible lesson is given along with training in practical matters like health, hygiene, good nutrition, good manners, educational activities, fun and games, and a nutritious snack or meal.
If you can provide a child sponsorship at 60,000 Shs per month, or if you would like to contribute towards extra activities for the children, contact ECM.
Aid to Children with Albinism
Children with albinism are born without protective coloring in their skin, hair and eyes. It is not a disease, but a genetic condition. These children, known as "albinos" or "muzungu", face some physical challenges, but their biggest problems may come from lack of understanding and acceptance by society.
People often fear what they do not understand. The causes of genetic conditions can be seen only under very high-powered microscopes with special equipment, but the results of those conditions are visible to all, especially in the case of albinism. Thus albino children may be shunned by their peers or ridiculed by others.
Their lives may even be in danger from those who imagine that the body parts of such unusual people must contain some magic power. Traditional healers looking for a way to exploit people can easily convince some that albinos have special power. They can then ask huge sums of money for the body parts of albinos, enriching themselves, empoverishing those who seek their help, and destroying the lives of albinos and their families.
Every Child Ministries seeks to help children with albinism in two ways. First, by making available teaching to help the public understand albinism:
Where albinos live within reach of our sponsorship projects, they are eligible for child sponsorship as long as they remain in school or vocational training.
Finally, we offer free sunglasses to every albino child or adult who registers with us. (The registration is so that we can contact them in case we obtain other items that can help them, or in case we open a new sponsorship project within their area. The sunglasses are a huge blessing to albino children, because the sun so readily burns their sensitive eyes. They are also a means of showing them the love of Jesus in practical ways.
First Aid & Medical Clinics
ECM's first aid clinics help the infected wounds and tropical ulcers that are so common amongst children to heal. Medical clinics are arranged from time to time to bring extra volunteer medical help in to assist with underserved populations. In this case, American and Ugandan doctors, nurses and medical specialists volunteer their time and travel expense to help those who are neediest.
ECM first aid clinics treat infected wounds and tropical ulcers because they can become serious problems.
